NSW Department of Education visit schools in Rosebud

A highlight of Term 3 was welcoming senior executives from the New South Wales Department of Education to visit two of our partner schools.
Through engagement with our long term colleagues at Knowledge Society, the NSW team was particularly interested to see Classroom Routines in action in our partner schools. Read more...
At both Rosebud Primary and Rosebud Secondary they saw exemplary execution of routines across each school.
Routines, such as entry and exit, transitions and cue to start are consistent across classes, students are secure in their expectations and requirements. This helps regulate behaviour, reduce anticipation and anxiety and optimise learning conditions. It lowers the stress, expands engagement and builds inclusion.
Politeness and safety sit at the foundations of this work. Safe conditions are established, respect and politeness are non-negotiable.
Regular coaching of the staff by the school leadership supports the ongoing fidelity of delivery. This provides the environment for high quality teaching to be provided every day in every classroom. Teachers are also supported in their practice and with high quality curriculum resources.
Introducing and maintaining predictable and consistent behaviour routines has been a game changer for our partner schools on the Peninsula. It is the first step in whole school reform. It can be introduced with existing staff and elicit quick results.
As schools Australia wide battle with class disruption, there is huge scope to quickly and dramatically change conditions by introducing and maintaining routines. It was a pleasure to share the work with the NSW team.
